Honey Chilli Potatoes (With Baked Fries)

Yield: 4 servings
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 40 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour

Honey chilli potatoes are perfect appetizers made with crispy potatoes that are tossed in sweet and spicy sesame honey chilli sauce.

Ingredients

For baked fries

  • 8-10 small potatoes or 5-6 medium potatoes, peeled and cut lengthwise
  • 3 Tbsp cornstarch
  • ½ tsp ground red chilli
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 Tbsp vegetable oil

For sauce

  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp red chilli sauce
  • 1 Tbsp ketchup
  • 1 ½ Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 4-5 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1 cm ginger chunk, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium green chilli, finely chopped
  • 1 medium-size onion, chopped
  • 1 spring onion, finely chopped
  • 1 medium-size capsicum, sliced
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 ½ tsp honey
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds

Instructions

    1. Preheat the oven to 230°C (446°F) for 10 minutes and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
    2. In a mixing bowl, add the potatoes, cornstarch, ground red chilli, ground black pepper, salt, and oil. Mix everything well until the potatoes are coated.
    3. Place the potatoes on the baking tray and bake for 30 minutes or until they are brown and crispy. Stop halfway to flip them.
    4. Meanwhile prepare the sauce by combining soy sauce, red chilli sauce, ketchup, cornstarch and water in a bowl. Whisk properly to remove any lumps and set the mixture aside.
    5. Place a frying pan on low-medium heat and add oil, garlic, ginger, green chilli, red onion and spring onion. Saute for 3-5 minutes. Set about ¼ cup of chopped spring onions aside for garnishing.
    6. Add the sliced capsicum, ground black pepper, and salt. Combine everything well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
    7. Now add the sauce mixture and stir. Cook till the sauce thickens. Then add the baked fries and cook on high flame for 1-2 minutes without turning the fries soggy. Finally add honey, green onions, and sesame seeds. Toss everything well and immediately turn off the heat.
    8. Serve hot, and enjoy!
